Your attention is the product

Most of the apps you open every day are free, and they're free because your time is what they sell. Every feed, every autoplay and every little red badge is tested and tuned to keep you on screen a bit longer, by teams of very clever people, every day.

So if you pick up your phone to check the weather and look up forty minutes later, that isn't a character flaw. It's the product working as intended.

We don't think the answer is to throw your phone in a drawer. Phones are useful. The answer is a little friction in the right place, at the right moment, on your side for once.

Your phone is built to keep you scrolling. Lentu is built to let you go.

A breath, not a wall

Most blockers show a wall: this app is blocked, try later. Walls hold until you're tired, and then you tap past them and feel worse.

Lentu puts a breath there instead. When you reach for a blocked app, you're offered one minute of slow, guided breathing. Often the urge has passed by the end of it. If you still want the app, you choose it, on your terms. And when you need the line held, Locked Blocks and Hard mode hold it.

Nothing keeps score. There are no streaks to break and no red numbers. What you did is counted; what you didn't do never is.

There was a time when you bought software once and it was yours. You paid, you installed it, and you used it for years.

Now nearly everything is rented. Notes, photos, to-do lists and most screen-time apps charge every month or every year, and others in this category charge up to $100 a year. Stop paying and they stop working.

A subscription also changes what an app wants. It earns more the longer you need it, so it has every reason to keep you needing it. A screen-time app should want the opposite.
